THE CHALLENGE
AUTOMATE THE WELDING OF A PART COMPOSED OF TWO SEPARATE ELEMENTS REQUIRED THE INTEGRATION OF MULTIPLE COMPLEX PHASES IN A SINGLE ROBOTIC CYCLE. THE MAIN CRITICALITY WAS TO COORDINATE THE PRECISE HANDLING OF THE COMPONENTS, THE TRANSITION FROM MECHANICAL GRIP TO WELDING, AND THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ROTATIONS OF THE PIECE, ALWAYS MAINTAINING THE CORRECT ALIGNMENT TO OBTAIN RELIABLE AND REPEATABLE WELDINGS. FURTHERMORE, THE USE OF DELICATE MATERIALS SUCH AS STAINLESS STEEL REQUIRED EXTREME ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OF THE WELDING, THE CLEANLINESS OF THE OPERATION, AND THE FINAL SEAL OF THE ASSEMBLY.
THE SOLUTION
TO RESPOND TO THIS NEED, WE HAVE DEVELOPED A MULTIPHASE ROBOTIC CELL CAPABLE OF MANAGING ALL THE OPERATIONS IN SEQUENCE, WITHOUT MANUAL INTERVENTION:
- THE ROBOT PICKS UP THE FIRST COMPONENT AND PLACES IT IN THE WELDING MACHINE;
- IN A SECOND PHASE, IT PICKS UP THE TEE EXTENSION, WHICH IS HELD IN POSITION BY THE MACHINE;
- ONCE THE TWO ELEMENTS ARE COUPLED, THE SYSTEM PERFORMS AN AUTOMATIC ROTATION OF THE COMPONENT, OPTIMIZES THE POSITION FOR THE NEXT PHASE;
- THE ROBOT AUTONOMOUSLY CHANGES TOOLS, SWITCHING FROM THE GRIPPER TO THE WELDING TORCH, AND CARRIES OUT THE WELDING WITH PREDEFINED TRAJECTORIES AND PARAMETER CONTROL;
- ONCE WELDING IS COMPLETED, THE ROBOT GRABS THE GRIPPER AND UNLOADS THE FINISHED PIECE.
